The role of the Assessor's Office is to estimate property values. We do not collect taxes. But, by law, we must discover all taxable property in the County and appraise its value, then calculate 35% of that appraised value to determine its assessed value.

The Assessor's Office performs the following major functions to fulfill its mission:

Find, list, and value uniformly all taxable property in the City as required by law.

Comply with the legal requirements for processing assessment objections and determining eligibility for property tax exemptions.

Provide service and information to the public, other city departments, and public agencies.

The City Clerk-Treasurer’s office provides a Notary service. The hours for Notary service are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A valid photo identification will be required (i.e.-driver’s license or non driver’s photo ID). A fee may be charged. I RECIEVED A PARKING TICKET, WHAT DO I DO?
A person receiving a parking ticket issued in the City of Port Jervis can plead guilty and pay either in person at the City Clerk-Treasurer’s office or by mail. Payment can be in the form of cash, check, or money order is paying in person. Payment by mail must be in the form of money order. No credit cards are accepted.
The following is the schedule of a parking ticket fine:
The face value of the ticket is due within 10 days of the issue date of the ticket.
On the 11th day after the issue date, the face value of the ticket doubles.
On the 27th day after the issue date, the fee will be the face value doubled plus an additional $10.00.
On the 43rd day after the issue date, the fee will be the face value doubled plus an additional $20.00.
On the 59th day after the issue date, the fee will be the face value doubled plus an additional $30.00.
On the 75th day after the issue date, the fee will be the face value doubled plus an additional $40.00.
On the 91st date after the issue date, the fee will be the face value doubled plus an additional $50.00 and turned over to a third party collection agency.
A person receiving a parking ticket can also plead not guilty and submit the ticket and any supporting documentation to the Port Jervis City Court for processing. Please call City Court at (845) 858-4034 for information.
HOW DO I OBTAIN A MARRIAGE LICENSE?
The City Clerk-Treasurer’s office issues all marriages licenses in the City. Proof of age and identity is required to obtain a marriage license. A person will be required to submit the following to the issuing clerk:
One (1) of the following age-related documents—Birth Certificate (Long Form), Baptismal record, Naturalization record, or Census record, and
One (1) of the following identity-related documents—Driver’s license, Passport, Employment picture ID, or Immigration record
**Please Note: Certified Divorce Decree or Death Certificate from all prior marriages must be submitted, if applicable.
A marriage license is valid for 60 days, beginning the day after it is issued. Fee: $40.00.
